Courses for dental professionals

We all know that “you are as old as you feel” but many of our patients are now choosing to give nature a helping hand by using non-surgical facial aesthetic treatments such as using Botulinum Toxin (Botox® / Dysport® / Azzalure®) or dermal fillers (e.g. Restylane®/Juvederm®/Hydrafill®) to ensure that the face they see in the mirror reflects how young they feel.

Certainly these facial aesthetic procedures complement the cosmetic dentistry services such as tooth whitening, tooth straightening and comprehensive “smile makeovers” using veneers that we offer here at Confident Dental & Implant Clinic.

You deserve to look and feel the best you can be and we look forward to helping you to refresh and reinvigorate your look with options for the following:

• Forehead frown lines
• Eyes tired and ageing “crow’s feet”
• Lips thin and “gummy smiles”
• Nose to mouth creases

One of the most effective ways to look younger and enhance your appearance is to smooth and soften away the tell tale signs of ageing: the dreaded wrinkles. This is done using gentle “wrinkle relaxing injections” or dermal fillers to the affected area. Dermal fillers work by mimicking the skin’s own natural ‘plumper’ hyaluronic acid, a substance which naturally deteriorates with age, resulting in lines and wrinkles. With fine, precise application of the injection, lines and wrinkles appear ‘filled’, smoothed and dramatically reduced. The effects of dermal fillers can be seen immediately, whereas wrinkle relaxing injections may take 1-2 weeks to see the full effects of each treatment. Results can last up to 4 months.

“Wrinkle relaxing injections” are straightforward and affordable and can even be provided for you in your lunch hour! Confident Dental & Implant Clinic is committed to providing the highest quality of treatment and have completed extensive training and we are ideally placed to recommend and provide the optimal facial aesthetic treatment to complement a beautiful smile. Contact us for a discrete consultation at your convenience.

Our medical and facial aesthetic procedures are provided in-house by our medical aesthetic nurse practitioner Karen Lockett.

Treatments

Frown Lines

For most of us frowning is a natural movement, it is just something we do occasionally throughout the day. We generally frown when we’re doing something that requires lots of concentration such as driving or reading and also when we’re angry or upset. Frown lines are the vertical lines that appear between the brows and the horizontal lines that form above the bridge of the nose.

Over time we can develop frown lines in the upper part of the face because of constant muscular contractions or the procerus and/or corrugator muscles. This constant muscular activity and folding of the skin in the same area, causes damage to the skin, forming lines and creases. Depending on the individual, some people will have deeper frown lines than others. Many of our clients with deep frowns complain of appearing older than their years, or having a worried or grumpy expression when they actually feel fine. This can affect the forehead and the glabella area between the eyebrows.

We have found that the best treatment for frown lines is to treat with muscle relaxing injections, such as Botox®, Vistabel or Dysport, which pinpoints and relaxes the muscles that create the frown lines; this is very effective at producing a softer less lined result.

In some cases where the lines were particularly deep we may then recommend at review two weeks later, further treatment with a filler to help smooth out any remaining lines using a product such as Restylane or Juvederm.

Smile Lines – Crows Feet

You can call crow’s feet “laughter lines” or “character lines,” but these slightly more flattering terms still refer to the same, unfortunately inevitable, sign of ageing: the wrinkles that begin to form at the outside corners of your eyes anytime from your mid-twenties onwards.

The skin on our faces stretches like a rubber band, thanks to a property called elasticity; this means that it can return to its original form after being pulled or compressed. Unfortunately, as we get older, our skin loses its elasticity that’s why we form wrinkles and certain parts of our body start to droop. One of the main reasons for this is that our bodies production of collagen and elastin, two proteins responsible for our skin’s elasticity, lessens with age.

One way to avoid crow’s feet would be to never smile, laugh, frown or squint and since that would be next to impossible for the majority, most of us have to look into other ways of combating crow s feet. We have found Botox to be an effective treatment for diminishing the lines that are apparent in the eye area, creating a more open expression and generally a more refreshed and youthful look.

Nose Wrinkles – Bunny Lines

Bunny lines are the wrinkles which form at the side of the nose. Commonly, people have more than one bunny line, with the lines becoming apparent when the nose moves on the face, as it often does when people smile. The “bunny” in “bunny line” is a reference to the famously wrinkled and twitchy noses of rabbits. As people age, bunny lines tend to form naturally as a result of years of smiling, frowning, and forming other facial expressions.

We can effectively treat unwanted Bunny lines with Botox®, muscle relaxant injections which pinpoint and relax  the muscles that create the lines..

Nose To Mouth Lines

These are the lines that travel from each side of the nose down to the corner of the mouth.  Over time these lines can develop into folds and are also referred to as nasolabial folds.

These folds become deeper with age largely due to gravity and the general ageing process. At birth, most of us have nice plump cheeks, but as the years pass, the cheek pad will gradually descend deepening the nasolabial fold. Diminished elasticity and excessive sun exposure also contributes to this ageing process.

We have found that dermal fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse and Sculptra treatments help to plump up the cheeks, softening the jowls and creating a more youthful expression.

* In clinic we now offer most dermal filler treatments using cannulas, an exciting new mode of treatment appropriate for most areas of the face, at no extra cost. Our expertise in this procedure offers to clients a very minimal amount of swelling and usually no bruising following treatments, meaning clients can carry on with their everyday lives without having to plan extended ‘down time’.

Mouth To Jaw Lines / Marionette Lines

The lines that extend down from the corners of the mouth toward the chin are known in the profession as marionette lines.  The name comes from the French word for puppet; if you can imagine a puppets face then it’s easy to visualize what these lines are. The marionette lines tend to deepen with age and they give the appearance that one is sad or tired. Some people have a strong tendency to develop marionette lines even at a young age, whereas some people never develop them.

The most commonly used method to treat marionette lines is to inject with a  “dermal filler” such as Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse, they can also be effectively treated with Sculptra treatments.

Upper Lip Lines – Smokers Lines

Lines above the upper lip can present as singular or multiple lines that radiate upwards from the top lip, sometimes referred to as ‘smoker’s lines’, everyone is familiar with the problem of bleeding lipstick. Many people who develop these lines may have never smoked, they can occur due to a genetic predisposition or excessive sun and environmental damage.

We can treat the lines with a variety of products, depending on their appearance. In most cases we choose a special dermal filler tissue tailored for the lip area. In all our lip treatments we aim to achieve a natural, soft look, whilst providing the lip area with support, shape and volume if required. Fillers we use in clinic are Restylane Lipp, Juvederm Smile, and Teosyal Kiss.  For finer lines above the lip or for skin rejuvenation in this area we prefer a softer treatment, using Restylane Vital, and Restylane Vital Light.

Down Turned Mouth

As we age, the mouth area also changes, some people will lose lip size and support and the corners of the mouth start to draw down. These mouth changes create an unhappy appearance to the once vibrant and youthful mouth area.

The use of many of the injectable fillers can be undertaken to not only increase the size of the lips and smooth out some of the fine wrinkles, but can also be used to temporarily lift the corners of the mouth. To achieve this fresher appearance, we use dermal fillers such as Restylane, Restylane Perlane and Juvederm.

Cheek Enhancement / Volume Restoration

As we age and gravity takes effect, causing sagging and drooping in the face we can reinstate the associated volume loss, and reposition cheek pads with Dermal fillers. These fillers are specifically designed for this purpose, and the fillers we use in clinic are, Restylane Sub Q, and Juvederm Voluma. The procedure is relatively quick, (approximately 30 minutes), with minimal down time and instant results that last for approximately 12 months.

Treatment prices start at £500

When the procedure of enhancing the natural contour of the cheeks is carried out along with treating the marionette lines, nasolabial folds and strengthening the jaw line if required, the treatment is sometimes referred to as the Y Lift. This provides a non surgical lift of the mid face, again with minimal down time.

A full face treatment may require a different approach, where both volume is restored and skin laxity is improved, with an injectable course of treatments using Sculptra. Sculptra restores volume by stimulating your own collagen production gradually over the treatment course, naturally restoring volume, providing lift and increasing skin elasticity where required. Course duration depends on various factors such as your age, amount of skin damage present and the desired outcome; this as always is discussed in depth at consultation.

Treatment prices with Sculptra are from £350 each treatment
Course of 5 £1500 (saving £250)

Lip Enhancement

We offer lip treatments which enhance your natural lip shape, to support and improve skin condition delivering subtle, soft, natural results.

Treatment for the lip area includes, lip lines, the border of the lips for definition, support and shape, and soft volume to thin lips or to reinstate volume lost through ageing. Treatment plans are formulated during your in depth consultation, but in clinic we usually treat the lip area cautiously, and then subsequent treatments if required can build, until the desired results are subtly achieved.

The products we use in clinic to treat the various areas of the lips include, Restylane Lipp, Juvederm Smile, Restylane Vital and Restylane Vital Light.

Treatment price: from £435

Tear Troughs

Tear troughs appear under the eye above the cheek, as we age gravity takes effect and we lose facial volume. The volume in this area can be reinstated with just a small amount of filler, such as, Restylane or Restylane Perlane. The hydration and integrity of the skin under the eye can be improved with Restylane Vital or with Dermaroller treatments; treating the cheek area with Restylane Sub Q can also improve the appearance of the under eye area. The tear trough area must be treated with great care and only by a medically trained, experienced practitioner; an appropriate treatment plan will be formulated during your in depth free consultation.

Hands

The problem with ageing hands is that they lose both connective tissue and fat, which is what makes them look bony; you end up seeing the tendons and veins you don’t see when you’re young. By injecting Radiesse, a unique, 100% biocompatible dermal filler, you can produce a buffer layer between the skin and the tendons and bones, plumping the back of the hands so the hand appears more youthful. This treatment is quick (approx 30 mins), painless, with immediate results, very minimal down time ( if any) and can be a good ‘pick me up’ with results that can last 12-18 months.

Treatment price £440

Chest

The skin hydration and integrity of the chest area (along with the hands) can be improved by an injectable treatment such as Restylane Vital, Restylane Vital light or with Dermaroller treatments.

Sculptra which stimulates your own collagen production can also be used to treat both the hand and décolletage areas.

Underarm Sweating

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) can greatly affect the daily lives of people who suffer with this problem. Sweating is nature’s way of cooling our bodies, for some people nature goes overboard, producing a sweating response that is anything but natural. Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating which can occur even when the climate is comfortably cool and the person is at rest. This excessive sweating can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing.  Not many people realise that it can be quickly, safely and effectively treated with Botox®. Many people following this injectable treatment, which takes approximately 30 minutes, report a total cessation of sweating in the area treated, with results lasting up to 12 months.

Treatment price £495 – both underarm areas
(Includes any ‘top ups’ required for possible ‘break through’ perspiration at 2 week review)

Leg Thread Veins

Thread veins that appear on the legs are often unsightly and can be quite distressing, but are unlikely to cause symptoms or medical problems for the sufferer. The gold standard procedure for the treatment of thread veins on the legs is Microsclerotherapy. The treatment involves injecting a small amount of sclerosing solution into the superficial vessel with a very fine needle; the solution irritates the vessel walls causing them to stick together. The blood cannot then flow through the treated vessels, and so the body naturally clears the area and they fade away. It is important to the success of Microsclerotherapy that immediately following treatment medical grade compression stockings must be put on and must then be worn for approximately 7-10 days following treatment; stockings are ordered at consultation and supplied in clinic.

All after care is discussed at length during your free consultation, but following treatment most normal activities can be resumed immediately.

Clients should note that the areas treated will look worse before they look better, so timing of treatments can be crucial if an improvement is required for a holiday or any other special occasion.

Though there will be an improvement following the first treatment of on average 60-80%, further treatments may be required and these can be carried out at 8-12 weekly intervals.  The amount of treatments required is varied and dependant on the severity and amount of thread veins, but 1-4 treatments is the average.

Treatment price: £150 for first treatment plus cost of support stockings (approx £60)
£100 for follow up treatments (using existing support stockings)

Skin Rejuvenation

Skin needling (Dermaroller) is a safe and increasingly popular skin renewal technique to restore the healthy youthful appearance of your skin at a fraction of the cost of comparable treatments and with minimal or zero down time. We use the MediK8 system of needling and skin rejuvenation products in both our clinic and home treatment regimes.

Skin needling produces similar results to ‘ablative techniques’ such as Fraxel lasers and deep chemical peels, but is much less invasive and does not require the removal of the skins surface. As a result, healing time is shorter and there is no post-treatment sensitivity to UV light.

Skin needling is also one of the few skin therapies that is suitable for treating all skin types, including ethnic skin and the fragile skin around the eyes, mouth and on the neck.

Skin needling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is based on the skins natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin, our body re-uses the damaged collagen and elastin fibres as well as other damaged skin components to produce new structures. Skin needling allows for controlled induction of the skins self-repair mechanism by creating micro-injuries which trigger new collagen synthesis, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring.

Skin needling is ideal for ageing skin
Helps to restore skin firmness and tightness to flaccid skin
Thickens the dermis and helps smooth wrinkles, lines, folds, and crows feet
Improves skin texture
Improves the appearance of large pores scars
Helps reduce the appearance of indented acne scars and pits
Helps improve scars caused by chicken pox
Helps to relax old scars

During consultation we will discuss a treatment plan suitable for your problem, which includes both in clinic treatments and a home care regime in order to achieve the maximum result possible.

* The MediK8 skin needling rollers that we use have titanium needles, they represent the gold standard in skin needling, delivering the safest treatments.

PDO Thread Lifts

“the gentle lift that lasts”
PDO Beauty Lift Threads – provides a ‘non surgical’ face and neck lift solution, enabling lifting & tightening the skin by stimulating new collagen production, providing resolution of wrinkles, tightening pores, & creating volume.

Lifting treatments that use special threads have been executed for several years. Over these years many different kind of threads appeared onto the market: Silhouette, Aptos, Happy Lift etc. The latest product used in such treatments is called a PDO thread. In contrast to the previously used threads, PDO threads do not have hooks or tapers that raise the tissue. The lifting effect is achieved both by the special threads weave and the substance Polydioxanone (PDO) from which the threads are made. PDO has properties that stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin, thus providing lift and improved skin quality to the area treated.

PDO Thread Lift Treatment Areas:

  • Horizontal and vertical forehead wrinkles
  • Forehead
  • Lowered outer eyebrow ends
  • Flaccid tissue, sagging eyebrows
  • Lower eyelid – bags under the eyes
  • Cheeks
  • Naso-labial folds (Smile lines)
  • Mouth corners (Marionette lines)
  • Sagging cheeks and area under the lower jaw
  • Jowls
  • Double chin
  • Skin furrow on the cheek
  • Creased cheeks
  • Skin furrows and wrinkles on the neck
  • Skin furrows and wrinkles on the cleavage

What are PDO Threads?

Polydioxanone has been used in medicine for over 20 years, mainly for absorbable threads used in surgery.

The PDO thread introduction technology is based on using the natural skin tension lines, which also causes an effect similar to a surgical facelift. Thanks to the PDO threads, we can also limit the strength of facial muscles. By introducing the PDO thread in the skin, we get an immediate improvement in its appearance.

The procedure is suitable for most people from 25 onwards, when the effects of ageing become apparent. Ageing causes the skin tissue to thin because the collagen and elastin fibres break down, which results in sagging skin, deep creases, folds and wrinkles

How do PDO Thread Lifts Work?

PDO Beauty Lift Threads trigger the skins rejuvenation process producing new collagen: lifting and tightening the skin, smoothing wrinkles, tightening up pores and producing volume, giving a more youthful appearance to the skin.

PDO Beauty Lift Threads are broken down slowly and predictably, and so fully absorbed in 180- 240 days.

The application of the threads is minimally invasive and almost painless. A treatment takes up to 50 minutes, leaving no scaring or cuts; any minor redness disappears within a few days, and any bruising within 1-2 weeks.

Are PDO Thread Lifts Safe?

PDO Beauty Lift Threads are CE marked, meaning this product meets all the requirements for CE surgical sutures.

How Long do PDO Thread Lifts last?

The effects last on average from 2-3 years.

TREATMENTS FOR MEN

Age, sun exposure and smoking can all cause fine lines and wrinkles to develop, your skin may become more fragile and less elastic as a result.

As we age the hyaluronic acid (HA) content of our skin – which is so important for water retention – decreases. Oil-producing (sebaceous) glands become less active and skin becomes drier. Over time the face also loses fat, so skin looks less plump and smooth and because the number of blood vessels decrease, the skin loses its youthful tone and appearance.

As well as these changes taking place, the stresses and strains of everyday life and gravity are also at work, pulling at the skin and causing it to sag.

Our medical aesthetic nurse practitioner Karen Lockett has treated men for many years, but over the years the number has increased as larger numbers of men are paying more and more attention to their appearance, knowing this can impact both their personal and professional lives.

We offer dermal filler, anti wrinkle (Botox ®) and skin therapy treatments for our male patients, to soften the impact of time, helping them boost their confidence, so enabling them to progress in our fast paced lives with greater positivity.

All consultations and treatments are confidential, so no one will know you have given your appearance a boost with a non surgical treatment at our clinics. Unlike some clinics, we do not charge a premium for male patients receiving medical aesthetic treatments.
